Sick Child and Giving Birth to McNuggets

August 30, 2007

Mom came up yesterday to watch the kids in the morning.  She called at about 10 saying Gavin had a temperature off 100*.  She gave him tylenol and called back two hours later saying his temp was up to 104*.  I called the doctors office and was told to give him Ibuprofen and bring him in 1.  When I picked G up 1/2 hour later his temp was over 105*.  By the time we got to the doctor it had started coming down.  Nearly 104*.  With no symptoms at all, they were a little concerned.  They did some bloodwork which came back fine and said it could be absolutely nothing (just a virus) or it could be a more serious infection, pneumonia, meningitis, etc.  He said if I’m comfortable waiting it out, I can just monitor him from home.  Or we could take more serious measures to try to figure it out…like a lumbar puncture, catheterization, and then all the rest was a blurr as I was trying to picture a lumbar puncture.  I decided to wait.  By the time we left Gavin’s temp was under 102*.  He’s been getting regular doses of Ibuprofen and Tylenol for the past 24 hours.  The doctor thinks symptoms will start showing up…runny nose, diarrhea, vomitting, etc.  Hopefully not.  And hopefully he doesn’t pass it on to his siblings.

Yesterday afternoon Lucy was asking quesitons about when she was born…and then about when her brothers were born.  When I got to the part about where the doctor cut open my belly and took out 3 tiny babies, she very seriously asked, “Were they like Chicken McNuggets?”  Maybe we’ve been going to McDonalds too often lately???

Our Sitter took the week off.  We’re trying to come up with creative things to do since the kids are home all day.  Today…we cleared all the high chairs, garbage can and tables out of the kitchen.  It became the place to ride bikes, trikes, wheely bugs and cars.  FYI – for those of you who don’t know what a wheely bug is…it’s the thing Lincoln is riding and it’s awesome.  All the kids love it.   All four wheels are on casters – it’s like one of those old fashioned scooters we rode in school – except someone turned it into a cute little bug.

Sunday

August 28, 2007

Sunday we went to pick up Lucy from Aunt Susie’s.  After deciding it was too hot for a trip to the apple orchard…we decided to go to the mall.  We went to the Iowa Children’s museum and it was the first time the boys actually got to get out and play in there.

Lucy and I watched a show on milking cows.  I was amazed at the technology out there these days.  But Lucy was very excited to show me that she could milk a cow.

Gracie saw her doing it and tried to figure out what the excitement was about.

If you think we drew attention to ourselves before, you wouldn’t believe the attention we got from this.  I think everyone felt sorry for Jamie!

We wore Gavin out.  This is him at home later that night:

I blogged last week about how Grace likes to make lines with books and stuff.  Here are some pics from Thursday night.  As you can see…Kimmee’s shoes are are part of the art.

Stupid Pictures at McDonalds

August 28, 2007

How many stinkin’ pictures can you take at McDonald’s playland?  Many more where these came from.  I REALLY love watching these kids play and interact together.  Lucy was off with Aunt Susie..so it’s just the four of them.  Lincoln = White, Gavin = Yellow, Vaughn = Orange.

Attempt #1 at a group photo of the boys.  Many people were laughing at us because it took about three minutes just for this picture.  None of them want to sit still.

But never fear…we have a group photo of all of them unable to escape!!
